I was curious. What does your user name mean? What's the connection?

Mine: Years ago I worked in a copy & printing shop. We also did business cards. They had a cheapo card, white with black print. I'm sure you've seen them.

A colleague was almost as goofy as I was at the time, and we went in on a card together. My initials and number in the left margin, his in the right, and in big print in the center, "WILE E. COYOTE, Supergenius."

This should surprise nobody here.

As an experiment, I dropped a few in a club in San Jose just to see if anyone would call, and how far they'd travel. Two weeks later at least one card had made it to Idaho. I got close to a dozen calls for "Mr. Coyote."

We eventually sprang for a more elaborate ACME Products card, but the original WILE E. COYOTE card was the classic. (The inclusion of a short product list on the ACME card was a real hit, though. For some reason people would always read the word "batsuits" out loud. Never failed.) My first email address was at a bbs, and "wiley" was the obvious choice. It's been lurking about ever since.

So, where did your name originate?

I'll do all of mine, since I think you were on my friends list back when I was still goldengrrl. :) That one came from the obvious -- I did, and still do, love The Golden Girls. Then I became mama_monkey, and that's because we called JJ "monkey" when he was a baby. Now it's cleverkitten, which wasn't my first choice, but capriciouskitty was either taken or wouldn't fit (can't remember). "Kitty" or "Kitten" is what Franco calls me, I haven't heard him call me by my first name in over a year.

P.S. I read this out loud to Franco and we both had a good laugh about the business cards.

Kimatyza is the phonetic/English written version of κύμτεζα. A feminization of the literary Greek
κύμτεζιον, which is listed in the Tuft's University Perseus project and A Greek-English Lexicon by Henry George Liddell and Robert Scott as to be agitated by the waves, Arist.HA622a18; toss about like waves, en têi koiliai k. ta sitia Gal.19.717 ; of the pulse, Id.8.482, 9.180.

I spent a portion of my early childhood living on Crete. I learned to read and write Greek at age four, a bit before I began writing in English. So when it came time to find an AOL user name one day and EVERYTHING was taken, it was natural to fall back on Greek words. This is a random spelling of a word I love. My pronunciation of it is now completely bastardized. (The actual pronunciation just doesn't roll off the English/American tongue, and doesn't translate exactly to the spelling I used.)

There you go.

Years ago, I read books by the beat nick author William S. Brroughs. While in South America (I believe) Mr. Burroughs befriended a ferry pilot named Clark. Captain Clark was a successful accident free pilot for 23 years. Then one day, on his 23rd launch, his boat sank, and many died. So, Burroughs found "Captain Clark welcomes you aboard" one of his favorite ominous greetings. For many years, my user name was CaptainClark23. But then the movie "The Number 23" came out and eliminated much of the odd lure of that number. Really...it all connects in minute.

I love to crochet. I'm actually working on hats for young Master Stubbs, and will send them when they are done.

My name starts with a K. When ever I have to give my name I say "Kathryn with a K" I am very proud of being a K Kathryn, and not a C Catherine. Not that there is anything wrong at all with Catherine. I just love my K. So, I switched Captain to Kaptain, and Crochet to Kroshay.

Total goober stuff I know. And certainly not nearly as intellectual as having learned Greek as I child. Of that education, I am a bit jealous.

It's funny how some of my friends think of me as an intellectual, yet I look at the things other friends of mine know off the top of their head (Like Kato not just being O.J's long term house guest) I feel like my education is sorely lacking. Well, and really, I know it is....but I learn what I can when I can. Loving to read helps a lot....

Ok, now that I have poured a part of my soul out....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Kaptain Kathryn!

My user name is easy. For many years I played Mad Tom O'Bedlam at the various renaissance faires. The character is based on a popular folk song that comes from the 11th century.

It also takes all the space available in a LJ name slot. I don't know why I like that, but I do.

Max J is short for Max Jerz, short for Maximum Jersey. My freshman year of college, my nickname quickly became "Jersey" (being the lone Jersey girl in my dorm). I was sitting in a studio lecture one day, with my mind wandering, when my prof started talking about Max Bill. I thought it was a cool name, and decided it should be short for Maximum William. From there somehow I came to maximum jersey, and I shortened it to something approximating a name for LJ.
