So we had a tour of the maternity hospital scheduled for yesterday. The hospital is about 22 minutes away, according to Google, but since we'd never been there we left for the 3pm appointment at 2:10.
You'd think that'd be enough time. We thought so.
We pulled onto I-5 South and were cruising along at 60mph for a few minutes. Then as soon as we passed the last street exit before a major interchange, traffic screeched to a halt. It slowed down to the point that
sixty-five minutes passed before we could get off the highway.
The entire highway was blocked. All three lanes, plus the two lanes feeding in from the interchange, had to feed onto surface streets via a three-way light that in normal conditions is kind of slow. My wife had visions of giving birth there in traffic after the first half hour of gridlock.
The tour, as you might guess, didn't happen.
