This morning after we got up we looked out the window.

Snow was coming down in huge, fat flakes, clinging together as they dropped from the sky. It's wet and melty now. Nature spent itself putting on the initial show, and now the ground is sloppy, holes punched in the sheets of white, some down to the ground.

The basement leak has started. At this point our recourse is move stuff out of the way and be sure to empty the dehumidifiers twice a day.

I drove to the grocery store yesterday for a few items. Maybe it was the last minute rush, maybe shipments were delayed by the ongoing weather issues, but they were out of fully half the items on my short shopping list. Nothing crucial, but darned annoying. The lines were amazing, akin to the line to see Santa in A Christmas Story, right down to the "Hey, you! The end of the line is back there!"-type incidents. It was a 35 minute wait. This at a grocery store. The parking lot hadn't been cleared, just compacted by traffic, so rolling a cart across the lot to the car was an adventure, tilting, pitching to one side or the other, stopping hard when wheels caught.

Driving was a challenge as well. The car had traction control devices (can't use chains on a Saturn due to the plastic body, apparently) but "control" is a relative term. They work well on a solidly snowed/iced surface. With the ruts and irregularities out there yesterday it felt like I was driving one of those Disneyland cars with a center rail to keep you on the course. Veer to one side and you're yanked back by the snow mounds. The 8" deep holes cut to clear manholes didn't help at all.

It was fun, in a crap-your-pants kind of way.
